Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD,
searching all the inward parts of the belly.
The spirit of man is the
doorway of the Holy Spirit. With our spirit, the Holy Spirit can access our
soul (thoughts, actions, emotions, and desires). Our spirit helps
us to connect with God. Without our spirit, we cannot receive a revelation from
the Word. It is through our spirit that the Holy Spirit opens the gate for our
soul to experience the joy in Heaven. It is through our spirit that the Holy
Spirit opens the gate for our soul to experience the activities in the
spiritual realm.
1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written into
1 Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his
Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth
1 Corinthians 2:11 For what man knoweth which knoweth
The Holy Spirit searches
the hidden truth and mysteries from God and reveals these truths to our spirit.
Our spirit enables us to stand before the presence of God. The holiness of the
Holy Spirit is too great to tarry in the presence of our sinful and corrupted
nature.
God has optimized our
spirit to behold the holiness of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives within
our spirit. He manifests Himself through our spirit. The power of God flows
through our spirit. The miraculous power and presence of God work through our
spirit.
Without light rays, our eyes
cannot see. When we are in the darkness, our eyes cannot see because God created
our eyes to see with light. The light rays enable us to see. The same principle
applies to our human spirit. Our spirit is like the light;
Willful sin blocks our
spirit from accessing the Holy Spirit (see Isaiah 59:1-2). When
our spirit is not active, the Holy Spirit finds it difficult to connect with
us. We have to train our spirit to help us connect with God. When our body
becomes weak, it ceases to operate effectively. People exercise and take drugs
to maintain the health of the body. If we can exercise and take recommended drugs to help
restore our health, why should we ignore our spirit?
This is what Apostle Paul
said:
1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly;
and I pray God your whole spirit [human spirit] and soul and body be preserved
If our spirit is weak, we cannot walk successfully
with the Holy Spirit. The devil will set traps for us when we are weak in the
spirit. We have to train our spirit so that our spirit can discern the
activities of God and the devil. Know these spiritual truths.
- Failure to train our spirit makes us a liability in the kingdom of God.
- Failure to train our spirit will empower the kingdom of darkness to issue their attack on us.
- Failure to train our spirit limits our walk with the Holy Spirit.
- Failure to train our spirit puts us on the level of the unbelievers.
- Failure to train our spirit makes us a great asset in the kingdom of darkness.
- Failure to our spirit creates invisible darkness in our walk with the Holy Spirit.
- Failure to train our
spirit allows the fruit of the flesh (Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
idolatry,
witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
envying,
murders, drunkenness, retellings, see Galatians
5:19-21) to dominate our soul.
This is one reason we
should train our spirit. Know these spiritual truths.
- Training our spirit helps us to walk with the Holy Spirit easily.
- Training our spirit helps us discern and avoid the traps of the enemy.
- Training our spirit empowers us to dominate the corrupt desires of the flesh and temporal desires of the soul.
- Training our spirit positions us to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit.
- Training our spirit makes our Christian life enjoyable.
- Training our spirit makes us connect with the will of God.
The question is, how do we train our spirit? We train our spirit through Spirit-led fasting and prayers, Word
