THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS CHRIST 1 (The true Blessings of God)

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Matthew 5:1-11 KJV

The pillar of Christianity rests in the bosom of Jesus Christ because He is the only way to God Almighty. It is a great mistake to follow Jesus and ignore His personality and teachings. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Saviour because He died for my sins and rose on the third day for my justification.

In Christ Jesus, our life and purpose is covered. No power can subdue us because the Greater of the Greatest, LORD of Lords, Power of Powers, the King of Kings and the GIVER of Life lives in us. Glory to God! We can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us. Anytime I hear or read the words of Jesus Christ in the Holy Bible, I see God Almighty speaking to me.

In this lesson, I will explore the precious words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and how He defines someone who is blessed. First, let us search for the Greek word “Blessed.” Blessed in the Greek word means Makarios. Makarios in the Greek word means someone who is supremely blessed by God. Our definition of blessings differs from God’s definition.

What you called a blessing may not be a blessing because cars, aeroplanes and other earthly treasures is not the only way to determine the blessings of God. What you disregard as a blessing or what you regard as a curse may be a blessing in the sight of God. It is better we define blessings according to Jesus Christ’s definition.

According to the book of Matthew chapter five verses one to number eleven, Jesus defines a blessed person as someone who desires spiritual things. Jesus sees people who value spiritual blessings more than earthly treasures as blessed in God’s kingdom. We live in a world where most people believe a blessed man or woman is the person who has mansions, jet planes, cars and great earthly treasures but that is not how Jesus Christ defines a blessed person. Those things may be important in the eyes of men not in the eyes of God. In heaven, God uses the gold, diamond, topaz, and other treasures we value on earth as materials for His roads (See the book of Ezekiel in the Holy Bible).

This does not mean that God disregards people with temporal earthly treasures. God looks at our heart and our desires. If your heart is after (LUSTING) temporal things, you are not valuable in God’s kingdom. God sees you as a valuable person if you seek, desire, crave, and search for the things that glorify His name. (evangelism, intercession, sowing seeds into ministries, helping the poor and the widow, creating opportunities for the weak, worship and praise from the heart, joining the workforce in the church).

Jesus defines a blessed person as someone who is humble. Humility begins from the heart.
  • The humble does not look down on the weak.
  • The humble does not discriminate.
  • The humble does not look down on the poor.
  • The humble does not value others above others.
  • The humble submits to the will of God.
  • The humble portrays the character of Jesus Christ.
  • The humble does not reject the weak.
  • The humble seeks to please God.
  • The humble honours are irrespective of the colour, tribe, and race.
  • The humble are not quick to condemn.
  • The humble can stand mockery and insults.
  • The humble does not always explain his actions.
  • The humble seek to please the Lord despite the persecution.
  • The humble have a childlike faith in the Word and in Jesus Christ.
  • The humble are teachable.
  • The humble desires peace.
  • The humble does not desire to please all men.
  • The humble becomes angry when he sees injustice and seeks to solve it.
  • The humble pray and seek the face of God.
  • The humble values and obeys the Word of God above every other word.

Jesus values people who desire holiness. Holiness means we love what God loves and hate what God hates. Holiness means we desire to please Jesus Christ despite our weakness.

Jesus values people who have a forgiving heart. If you are quick to issue judgement without discernment and fair consideration of the matter, you are not a merciful person. Merciful people see people with their hearts. They have an understanding heart. They can tolerate the weakness and imperfection of others and help them come out from that bondage. Such people are valuable in the sight of God. God calls such people blessed.

Jesus values people who have a precious heart. Men may judge by their standards; traditions and the recommendations people give about you, but God sees you as a blessed person when your heart is pure. If your motives are clear and unharmful in the sight of God, Jesus sees you a blessed person when you desire an increase in God's kingdom. When our heart is right with God, nothing can draw us away from Him because we are tied to Him emotionally, spiritually and in works.

When people speak evil of us because of our love for God and the kingdom work, we are valuable in the sight of God. It is unbiblical when all men speak well of you because we live in a world where people hate Jesus Christ, His teachings, the truth, the kingdom work and the followers of Jesus Christ. If you are a disciple of Jesus Christ and people slander, reject and mock at you because of your labour of love, become happy because you are a great treasure in God’s kingdom (Meditate on Luke 6:26).

Jesus Christ sees you a blessed man or woman in His kingdom, so don’t give up when those you expect to love you turn against you. You are a great treasure in the hands of God. The world cannot handle you because they are not qualified to handle your dignity and the treasure God has placed in you.
