My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:27 KJV
Loved one in Christ
Jesus, I believe you are growing in the wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is our only source of strength because, without Him, we are lost in
the wilderness. Jesus Christ is the joy of the entire world, and it is our
responsibility as Christians to preach the good news to the unbelievers.
Without the preaching of the Word, we limit the Holy Spirit. If we don’t preach
the good news to the world, Jesus Christ, cannot establish His kingdom on earth.
This is episode four of
my teachings, how to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. In episode one, I
explained that you must be born again to enable you to activate your spiritual
senses and hear clearly from the Holy Spirit. I explained in episode two that
sin, carnality, bitterness, equal yoke with unbelievers, no prayer, and fasting
life limits us not to hear from the Holy Spirit.
In episode three, I
explained that some voices limit us not to hear the Holy Spirit. I
explained how to discern the voice of the devil and his minions, how to discern
the voice of the Holy Spirit, how to recognize the voice of the human soul and
spirit and other voices.
In this episode, I will
share with you some ways the Holy Spirit speaks to us. Knowing the channels
through which the Holy Spirit speaks to us can help us position ourselves to
hear Him when He speaks. Below are some ways the Holy Spirit speaks to us.
1. The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the inner
voice.
The Spirit[Holy Spirit] itself
beareth witness with our spirit[human spirit],
that we are the children of God:
Romans
8:16 KJV (Emphasis added).
The Holy Spirit speaks to
us through our spirit. Without our spirit, we cannot hear the voice of the Holy
Spirit. The reason the Holy Spirit speaks to our spirit is that our spirit
understands His language. For example, I can understand Twi
when someone speaks it because I understand it.
A citizen in Spain would understand the
Spanish language because he understands it. Every citizen understands his
language because they know the language. In the animal world, they
communicate, but we don’t understand them because we are not in their realms.
The same principle
applies to our spirit and the Holy Spirit. Our spirit understands the signals
of the Holy Spirit because our spirit understands the language of the Holy
Spirit. The voice of the Holy Spirit rings in our heart. No one hears this
voice because it is inward.
When the Holy Spirit speaks to our spirit, you will
not hear him with your external ears or senses. Your spirit hears and feels it. Sometimes it can be an
impression in your heart. The voice of the Holy Spirit keeps pressing your
heart to do something or postpone it.
This voice works with your spiritual
maturity. Sometimes you can feel uncomfortable, other times you feel a sense of
inner peace or joy. Other times when you are about to do something, your heart
condemns you of the action. When your heart condemns you of the action, the
Holy Spirit is speaking to you.
I remember when I was
serving the nation of Ghana after completing University, a lady came into my
rented apartment for assistance. I made a law that I will never allow a female to enter my
room when I was in University. This law works in my life. It is better to
prevent sin from occurring, so I have created measures not to open the door for the
enemy to attack my spiritual life.
To be frank, I don’t know
how I became a close friend to this lady to the extent of allowing her to enter
my room. This young lady was in level 100 when I was serving the nation of
Ghana, for one year (National Service). She came to my room for help. I assisted
her in some of her assignments. One day as I was assisting her in her
assignment, she opened her two legs and looked straight to my eyes. She was
wearing a short skirt, so I could see her seductive panties.
I was with her alone in
my room. When she opened her legs and looked at me with her lustful eyes, evil
thoughts came into my heart. I couldn’t stand her seduction, so I pressed towards
her and tried to do ungodly things with her. I felt great fear in my heart. My
heart was beating fast as I tried to proceed further. By the grace of God, I
never undressed. She did not see my nakedness, and I did not fornicate with her because of the fear I had in my
heart.
From that time, I thought
twice about the lady. What would have happened if I did not feel that fear in
my heart? As my heart was beating fast, the lustful desire in me went off. I knew
I am about to do something that will grieve the Holy Spirit. This lady tried to
seduce me, but the Holy Spirit applied the key to fear in me. When the Holy
Spirit projected the godly fear and condemnation in my heart, I felt that I was about
to sin, so I stopped.
That is how the Holy
Spirit speaks to us. There are many instances I have encountered similar
situations. The Holy Spirit gave me the grace to overcome. He spoke to my
spirit. Sometimes I can discern and perceive that it is a trap of the enemy. If
you train your spirit, you can hear the inner voice of the Holy Spirit.
2. The Holy Spirit can
speak to you through your leaders or prophets.
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto
his servants the prophets.
Amos 3:7 KJV
The Holy Spirit speaks
through His servants. Every minister called, chosen, and anointed by God speaks
the mind of the Holy Spirit. Connecting with the sermons of your shepherd means
you are hearing from the Holy Spirit.
Some Christians have not developed their spiritual senses to hear from
the Holy Spirit so the only way the Holy Spirit can speak to them is through
the sermons, books, and materials of the leader (s) of the church.
When Samuel heard the
voice of God in the night, he thought it was his prophet, Eli. Anytime God
speaks to Samuel, he approached Eli. When Eli recognize that God was the one
speaking to Samuel, he told him to respond to God’s voice. If Samuel could recognize
the voice of God as Eli's voice, then it means that God spoke like Eli.
When you hear your
prophet or leader speaking, the Holy Spirit is speaking. Sometimes you will
hear the voice of your prophet through dreams and visions, the Holy Spirit is
using the prophet to speak to you. Don’t act like a child as Samuel did when he
was young, recognize that the Holy Spirit is speaking. Meditate on these
scriptures.
And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word
of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his
place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the
ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me.
And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to
Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I
called not, my son; lie down again.
Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD
yet revealed unto him.
And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went
to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived
that the LORD had called the child.
Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he
call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel
went and lay down in his place.
1 Samuel 3:1-9 KJV
4. The Holy Spirit can
speak to you when you connect with sanctified and gifted Christians who operate in
the office, gift, and stream of the prophet.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his
friend.
Proverbs 27:17 KJV
Connecting with
Christians who are gifted in the Spirit can help you connect with the voice of
the Holy Spirit. Christians who operate in the office, gifts, and streams of the
prophet can help you know the plans of God because they know how to tap into the
mind of the Holy Spirit. They can download prophecies from the Holy Spirit and
upload it to your spirit.
Get this key, every
prophecy that does not edify you or build your faith in Christ Jesus is
questionable. Break deceptive prophecies by the Word of God. Sometimes God can warn you through prophecies. Repent from any sin that opens the door
for the enemy to attack. Agabus could see the danger ahead of Paul’s journey
because Agabus operated in the gifts of the prophet. Paul disobeyed the
prophecy of Agabus and faced the consequences.
There is a caution here, the
fact that the person operates in the prophet's gift does not mean that you
should follow all the prophecies. If the person’s life does not conform to the
image of Jesus Christ, pray about the prophecies you receive from the person because
some people are operating in the spiritual gifts without repentance (See Romans
11:29).
It can be a familiar spirit using the person. Apply divine wisdom when
walking with Christians who operate in the gifts and office of the prophet. Get

4. The Holy Spirit can speak through inspired books
and videos.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast
rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to
me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy
children.
Hosea
4:6 KJV
Ignorance is one of the
greatest weapons of the enemy. Failure to acquire knowledge leads to destruction.
God rejects people who are ignorant because they limit Him under their wisdom.
One reason people cannot hear the voice of the Holy Spirit is because of
ignorance. If you want to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, be a dedicated
reader. The more you know, the higher the Holy Spirit can use you to do outstanding
works in God's kingdom.
Let’s examine the life of
the Apostles. Apostle Peter, John, and other disciples who walked with Jesus Christ could
not perform exceptional works in the kingdom, not because they were weak. These
Apostles were anointed and full of divine power, but their level of knowledge was low, so the Holy Spirit could not lift them to a greater height in the kingdom work.
Apostle Paul who never
walked with Jesus Christ when He walked on earth, did a lot of mighty works for
the kingdom of God because He was a man of knowledge. Paul loved knowledge. He
wrote many inspired books, and the council recorded his works in the Holy Bible.
Paul trained ministers and opened churches in different parts of the world
because He was knowledgeable.
The Holy Spirit gave Paul divine wisdom to apply the knowledge he has acquired because he knew the law. He read
books. The Holy Spirit always spoke to Paul because He knew Paul can accomplish the task.
Apostle Peter and the
others were anointed, but the Holy Spirit could not use them as He used Paul
because their level of knowledge was low. If you want the Holy Spirit to speak
to you and use you to do more significant projects for the kingdom, be a lover of
inspired books and videos.
