Like any other
association, the Christian faith needs to be maximized, groomed, nourished, and
adequately nurtured to reach its full potential. No man becomes a mature
Christian by chance. It takes a lot of responsibility and commitment.
Apostle Paul admonished
Timothy, a young minister of the Gospel; he said, "Meditate on this
things, give thyself wholly to them, that thy profiting may appear to all"
(1 Timothy 4-15). It is not enough to be saved; if you don't apply yourself
wholly to the principles that got you converted, you will miss it.
On a daily basis,
thousands of people give their lives to Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and
Savior, but sadly enough, most of them backslide without truly maximizing their
calling in Christ Jesus.
One of the cardinal
reasons that will aid a Christian to maximize his faith is to realize that
Christianity is personal warfare and adventure. Remember when you received the
Lord Jesus, you boldly declared Him as your 'Personal' Lord and Savior, not a 'family' or a 'congregational'
Lord and Saviour.
This is an important
reality that every convert or Christian has to come to terms with; it is
awesome to congregate. Even the Bible warns us not to forsake the gathering of
the brethren. It teaches us the importance God attached to congregating as
Christians, but the truth of the matter is that each one of us has an
individualistic and personal responsibility in growing and sustaining our faith
in Christ Jesus.
Beloved, no matter how
anointed or gifted your pastor may be, there is still no substitute for
personal growth and development in the area of prayer, faith, holiness, and
righteousness. Apostle Paul in his letter to the Philippians Church,
emphasized, "Therefore my beloved, not as in my presence, but now much
more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it
is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. (Philippians
2:12-13).
I'm tempted to ask you
even as we proceed in this discourse: will you continue to be a Christian if
your pastor decides to denounce Jesus today. Will you continue to be a
Christian if you lose those valuable things in life?
There are Christian's
who don't go to church if the senior pastor or prophet is not in church; it
tells you where their hearts belong to, "For where your treasure is there
your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21)
Friend, you must not be
ignorant of the things that sustain your livelihood for you to truly maximize
your Christian faith or do exploits in any endeavors. Many believers are in
shambles today not because God is not willing to bless them or not because the
devil is that powerful but because of their ignorance about the word of God.
Everything a believer
will ever need is rapped down in the word of God. "In the beginning was
the word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the
beginning with God. All things were made through Him and without Him nothing
was made that was made. (John 1:1-3).
Beloved, if you are in
shackles today, either in your career, business, marriage, or ministry, one
thing is sure about that situation is either the word is not known, or the word
is not understood. Anytime the word of God is known and understood, there is
liberation. "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm
119:105). Any Christian that will truly maximize his faith must depart from all
manner of trivialities in the church.
In my few years of
serving in the vineyard of the Lord, I have personally witnessed church members
stop going to church not because the word of God is not preached but simply
because he was sick and no church member visited.
Meanwhile, the same
scenario can be demonstrated at his workplace but yet he will not resign. Am I
saying church members shouldn't be supported or visited where necessary? Certainly
not; our faith should transcend beyond humanly visitations and support.
We all once enjoyed
such acts of kindness, but with time we grew. Apostle Paul admonishes the
church in Corinth said, "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I
understood as a child, I thought like a child, but when I became a man I put
away childish things."(1 Corinthians 13:11)
In conclusion, there is
so much therein for us to do for the kingdom of God that we can't afford to
continue championing minor issues while the major task is left unattended.
People lament over irrelevant matters in the church but are comfortable in their
sins and stagnation in their faith.
