24 Ways to discern genuinely born-again Christian believers | How to detect Believers in Christ Jesus |- 3
The series of knowing how
to detect true believers in the body of Christ Jesus continues. I encourage you to read my
previous articles for more profound revelations. Use this article to
examine your faith in the Lord because everybody claims to be a believer in
Christ Jesus.
By the time you finish
reading the series. You will know your stand. Join the spiritual bus by sharing the link to this article because you can save a soul from the trap of destruction.
Numerous
people perish in life because of ignorance.
When
you have adequate knowledge, it helps you make better decisions in life. The
fact that knowledge delivers does not mean every knowledge is resourceful. Acquiring
corrupt knowledge is more harmful than being ignorant because you will be
acting destructively.
Always test the
reliability and authenticity of information by the Word of God (Holy Bible).
God has given us the conscience to differentiate between good and evil. We have
several ways of testing information.
The best tool you can use
is the Word of God because the Word of God will never pass away (Meditate on Luke
21:33). People keep updating their wisdom and discoveries, but the Word of God
stands unchanged.
It is only the Word of
God that keeps producing revelation. Keep your heart on the Word of God because
it is the foundation of life. As stated, I’m continuing on my series on how to
discern true Christian believers.
In other words, how to assess
yourself in the faith. Do not use the wisdom keys in this article to judge others.
Rather, use it to examine your Christian life. Although the wisdom keys in this
article can be used to detect genuinely born-again Christian believers and
wolves in sheep's clothing, it is for your Christian living and self-assessment
(Meditate on 26:2, 11 Corinthians 11:28, 2 Corinthians 13:5).
We sometimes make
mistakes in life because we live in a corruptible body. As Christian believers,
we depend on the Holy Spirit to guide us in life because He is our sustainer,
guide and leader (Meditate on John 14:26;16:13, 1 John 2:27).
You might not have
reached the level of hearing the voice
of the Holy Spirit clearly. At this stage, you will need the guidance
of your pastor (s). You will need the Word of God to direct your path because
the Word contains the general will, plans, and wisdom of the Holy Spirit.
Christian believers who
ignore the counsels of the Holy Scriptures open their souls to the attacks of
the enemy. Make the Word your priority because the Word contains unlimited pearls
of wisdom. Let’s kick in as I share some biblical keys you can use to assess
your Christian life and other people claiming to be believers in the body of Christ
Jesus.
1. Real Christian believers are meek and lowly in heart.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will
give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
Most children have some features
of their parents because of some biological transfers. In the same way, true
Christian believers possess some features of Christ Jesus. Christ Jesus said He
is humble and calm in the soul.
If you check the four temperaments,
the phlegmatic has a humble nature. However, most of them are stubborn inwardly.
If it is true that you are a follower of Christ Jesus, let us see your humility
and calmness.
Most often, our humility
shows when people provoke us. Real humility is of the heart. Humility is not “yes
sir!” and “yes, madam!” Constantly bowing to people of authority is not a sign
of real humility.
That’s
a partial humility or slavery mentality.
Real humility is an invisible virtue. You don’t tell people you are humble; they
recognize it when encountering you. The way you act and talk when you see poor
and weak people shows your pride and humility.
A humble person respects everybody
irrespective of culture and status. Humble people submit to godly orders. Maybe
our Saviour and Lord Christ Jesus was phlegmatic because He identified Himself
with meekness.
The two virtues that separate real Christian believers from religious unbelievers are the virtue of humility and calmness of the heart. If you are lowly in the heart, you endure the imperfection of others.
- Humble people do not discriminate.
- Humble people respect human beings.
- Humble people do not hold grudges for a long time.
- Humble people do not create an atmosphere of conflict.
- Humble people honour God’s creation.
It takes a man with a
lowly heart to endure the world’s persecution. Christ Jesus is meek and lowly in heart.
Are you a real Christian believer? If you are a Christian believer, you will imitate
the lowliness and humility of Christ Jesus. Meditate on this holy scripture for
more profound revelations.
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as
he walked.
1 John 2:6
2. Real Christian
believers are moderate physically and spiritually.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel,
with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or
costly array;
1 Timothy 2:9 KJV
In his letter to Timothy,
Apostle Paul stated that women should dress in modesty. Although this letter goes
to women, it also applies to men. Real Christian believers do not dress like
unbelievers.
We dress to glorify God Almighty.
Dressing like a harlot and identifying yourself with Christian believers is an
error. As a Christian believer, you are supposed to cover your nakedness. I
mean, your dressing must reflect the image of Christ Jesus.
Can you imagine a Christian
believer dressing like someone going to a nightclub? That is not real Christianity!
Real Christianity has some identification marks. Real Christian believers do
not dress to seduce others.
It is the unbelievers who
dress to lure others into sin! Real Christian believers have a moderate heart
and appearance. Apart from their moderate dressing, they keep their heart from worldly
and satanic defilement.
In today’s world, fashion
has become the game of the day. On the internet, television and media, people dress
like harlots. People show their sensitive parts under the guise of fashion. If
you have the Holy Spirit living in you, He will prompt you when your dress
becomes a stumbling to someone’s salvation.
If you are born again,
you will build on your natural beauty. You will not be interested in ungodly
fashion design. Do not become a tool for the enemy because the ungodly dressing
isn’t real Christianity. Meditate on these holy scriptures for more profound
revelations.
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that,
if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the
conversation of the wives;
While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting
the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not
corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in
the sight of God of great price.
For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted
in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord: whose daughters ye are,
as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge,
giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs
together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of
another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise
blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a
blessing.
For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his
tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are
open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them
that do evil.
And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that
which is good?
But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and
be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to
give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is
in you with meekness and fear:
Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of
evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in
Christ.
For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for
well doing, than for evil doing.
1 Peter 3:1-17 KJV
3. Real Christian believers have one spirit, soul and body.
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day
there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship,
and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by
the apostles.
And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men,
as every man had need.
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking
bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of
heart,
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added
to the church daily such as should be saved.
Acts 2:41-47 KJV
After the Apostles and other disciples of Christ Jesus had received the power of the Holy Spirit, Apostle Peter began to preach the gospel to the unbelievers. Those that gave their lives to Christ Jesus exhibited some virtue of the Holy Spirit.
- They got baptized in water.
- They continued in the doctrine of the Apostles.
- They break bread together.
- They prayed as a team.
- They sold their possessions and used the money to help the poor people in the church.
- They went to each other’s homes and shared basic needs such as food, water, and clothing.
- They rejoiced together.
If these Christian believers did these things, real Christian believers could also do them. Question any Christian believer who does not want to help the brethren in need. Such a person is not born again.
- Real Christian believers think about the welfare of the brethren.
- True Christian believers welcome the brethren in their homes.
- Real Christian believers love to pray and share the Word with the brethren.
- Real Christian believers desire water baptism.
- Are you a real Christian believer? Meditate on these holy scriptures for more profound revelations.
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came
together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the
morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were
gathered together.
And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being
fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with
sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said,
Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten,
and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to
take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot.
And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.
And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios;
and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the
next day we came to Miletus.
For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend
the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at
Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the
church.
And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the
first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all
seasons,
Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and
temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have
shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward
God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing
the things that shall befall me there:
Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds
and afflictions abide me.
But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto
myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I
have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching
the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the
blood of all men.
For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the
which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which
he hath purchased with his own blood.
For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in
among you, not sparing the flock.
Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to
draw away disciples after them.
Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I
ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace,
which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them
which are sanctified.
I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.
Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my
necessities, and to them that were with me.
I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support
the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more
blessed to give than to receive.
And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him,
Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should
see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
Acts 20:7-38 KJV
See
the actions of the real Christian believers in Acts 14
4. Real Christian
believers shine in the darkness.
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour,
wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be
cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be
hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a
candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:13-16 KJV
Christ Jesus stated that
his children are the light and salt of this world. He further stated that we must
shine before men so that they can see our good works and glorify the Heavenly
Father. Real Christian believers are leaders of change and development.
We know that light gives
us clear vision. Without the sun, stars and moon, darkness will dominate the
earth. Without electrical light, our eyes will find it challenging to see clearly
in the dark.
Christ Jesus expects his
children to be the light (delivers, leaders, kings, queens, directors, governors,
and controllers) of the world. Check out my article, why
Christians must occupy every leadership position for more wisdom keys.
Real Christian believers
expose darkness (evil) and exalt light (righteousness). Anyone that claims to be
a believer in Christ Jesus and fails to deliver others from the bondage of sin
and demons is not born again.
Real Christian believers are pacesetters. Without us, the world will be full of injustice. Anyone leading others to the unquenchable light is a Christian believer. Anyone that does something to bring glory to the Heavenly Father is a child of God.
- Are you a light giver?
- Are you a leader of deliverance?
- Are you making a positive impact in the world?
- Are your works giving glory to the Heavenly Father?
If yes to these questions,
then you are a child of God. If not, then you are an unbeliever? Repent!
5. Real Christian believers portray godly behaviour.
…speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in
charity, in patience.
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh
holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their
husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own
husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing
uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary
part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them
well in all things; not answering again;
Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the
doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.
Titus 2:1-10 KJV
In his letters to Titus,
Apostle Paul writes that Christian believers must abstain from wine and live
soundly because some human beings think abnormally. Real Christian believers
must show love and be patient.
True Christian believers having
children must teach their children the Word of God. Christian believers should
love their partners. Real Christian believers must separate themselves from the
world and serve the Lord in holiness (Meditate on Hebrews 12:14, 2 Corinthians
6:14-18;7:1, 1 Thessalonians 4:7, 1 Peter 1:16).
One identifying mark that
Apostle Paul emphasized is the soundness of mind. When provoked, the ability to
control yourself is a strong sign that you are born again. I encourage you to
meditate on Titus 2:1-10 for more profound revelations because it shows the
characteristics of real Christian believers in each age group.
