What to do When Losing Faith (20 Powerful Keys) – 1
The fruit of life
Have you ever reached a
point in life where you feel like giving up or committing suicide? Have
you prayed and prayed for several days, weeks, months, and years, yet God is
quiet about the situation?
Maybe you were sick, or
your neighbor was sick unto death. You even desired death because of the pain,
yet death did not accept the invitation. You felt like God had forsaken you.
You felt that the world was hopeless and meaningless.
You may have concluded
that God is dead or that He does not care about you and your loved ones. Maybe
you reached a stage where you earnestly needed an urgent miracle, but God did
not answer.
At this point, you feel
like giving up on your faith. You decided to give up on Christianity and choose
your path. Be still and keep reading for more wisdom keys. Before I dive deeper
into this truth, let me share some of my experiences with you.
My experience at the prayer camp
I went to a prayer camp for
twenty-one days to wait on the Lord. In the prayer camp, they had an auditorium
where visitors pray. The auditorium was large and tall. Beautiful birds made
their nests at the ceiling of the hall.
One day, while praying in
the auditorium, I saw a bird lying on the ground (tiled floor) just a few steps
from where I was praying. The beautiful bird was struggling to fly while it
rolled on the ground.
Naturally, I love animals,
so my focus changed to the struggling black and white smallish bird. Observing
the beautiful, struggling bird, I realized that it had fallen from a nest. It
was a baby bird.
However, looking at its
structure and feathers, it can fly. The bird struggled to rise from the ground.
I could see and feel that the bird wanted to fly. However, it couldn’t fly. I told
myself it was time to test my faith in the Lord and the Holy Bible.
I declared by faith that
the bird should rise and fly several times, but it didn’t fly. I could see and
feel the struggle and suffering of the beautiful little bird. Then, I started
quoting some promises from the Holy Scriptures to back up my prayers
(declarations).
However, the bird did not
fly! I searched for a stick and went near the bird. I used the stick to carefully
position the bird in a flying state and declared from the Holy Scriptures that
it should fly, yet did not fly!
My heart and mind began
to doubt. My faith in God and the Holy Bible began to diminish. I was losing
hope in God and the Holy Bible because the bird was not responding to my
prayers and the Word.
I could feel the pain,
fear, and suffering of the bird. The bird was even defecating on the ground
when I touched it with the stick. I said to myself, if God cannot let this bird
fly, then my prayers are nothing in the sight of God.
While sitting at the
prayer auditorium with a doubtful mind and heart, one of my roommates at the
prayer camp came into the prayer auditorium. He was a northerner. He came from
Bolgatanga (very far from the prayer center).
The prayer center was in
the suburb of Odumase (eastern region of Ghana). This means he travelled
several hours before reaching the prayer center. This should tell you that he
had faith in God.
When this roommate
entered the prayer tent, I called him. When he came to where I was, I told him
about the bird that accidentally fell from the nest. I told him about my faith
in God and the Word (the Holy Bible).
I expressed my heart to
him about the struggling bird and how my faith was falling because of the
silence of God (the bird not flying). However, he did nothing important after
expressing my worries about the bird.
I could discern that he
was more consumed with his problems than the bird. I could also see that he did
not regard the bird as an important creature. I saw that he was a maturing
Christian. I could also discern in the Spirit that my faith was greater than
his.
One thing he said that
encouraged me was that He would use my case to test his faith. I could also see
that he had many challenges. He told me that he came from Bolgatanga to the
prayer camp because he believed the power of God dwells at the prayer center.
He left for the main
auditorium, telling me he wanted to do Bible studies. At this point, I
concluded from my heart that God does not answer prayers. Strangely, I began
doubting the Holy Bible, God, and prayers at the prayer camp!
While sitting at the
prayer tent, hot prayers were taking place at the main auditorium. I told
myself that I must see evidence if these praying Christians claim to pray to a
prayer-answering God.
I contacted one of the
women who led short Bible studies that someone needed prayers at the prayer
tent. She told me she would call one Church leader to pray for the person.
Remember, I did not tell the woman that it was a bird that needed prayers.
The woman told me to wait
for her at the prayer tent while she brought me one of the Church leaders to
pray for the person. Within a few minutes, I saw an anointed man of God
approaching me at the prayer tent.
I stood up to meet the
man. Then, I directed him to the struggling bird. The man did not show any sign
of disrespect to me for showing him the suffering bird. I told him about my
prayers for the bird to rise and fly, yet nothing happened.
I even told him that I
used several Holy Scriptures to pray for the bird, yet the struggling bird
could not rise and fly. The man said the bird’s mother would come for her. He
said they (leaders) have been planning to eliminate the birds.
The man did not pray for
the struggling bird. He told me the mother of the struggling bird would come
for her. He said many important things and encouraged me. However, what stuck
into my head was that the mother of the struggling bird would come for her child
(the struggling bird).
Because of this incident,
I doubted the prayers at the main auditorium that day. I left the prayer tent
and contemplated my faith, the power of the Word, and why the struggling bird couldn’t
rise and fly.
Remember, this happened a
few weeks ago at the time of writing this article. I went to the prayer tent in
the evening, hoping not to see the struggling bird because the man said its
mother would come for her.
When I went to the prayer
auditorium, I saw my roommate sitting closer to where I sat with his Holy Bible.
I asked him about the struggling bird, and his response was not positive. He
just pointed his hands to where the bird was lying.
When I checked, the bird
was almost dead. To be precise, the bird will die in that state! The mother did
not come for the poor bird, as the church leader (elder) said. This time, my
faith in God drastically fell.
I could also see that my
roommate's faith was down. That evening, it rained heavily for a long time. At
midnight, while asleep, something strange happened. I received an attack from
the dark kingdom in the spiritual realm.
Since the day I came to
prayer camp, all my dreams have been prophetic, blessed, and godly. However,
the day I lost faith in God and his Word because of the little struggling bird,
I received a heavy attack from the dark kingdom. So, what is my point here? I
want to open your eyes to understanding.
Seasons in the Christian Journey
There are times when we
enter the doubt zone. There are times when God keeps silent. This doesn’t mean
that God has forsaken us. Do not give up on your faith because, without faith,
we cannot please God (see Hebrews 11:6). You might be asking what faith is.
What is faith?
In Hebrews chapter
eleven, we can find a profound revelation about faith. Let’s read.
…faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not
seen.
Hebrews 11:1 KJV
Many Bible scholars have
concluded that the Apostle Paul wrote the Book of Hebrews. I have done some
studies on the writer of Hebrews. I also conclude that the Apostle Paul wrote
the Book of Hebrews. In Hebrews chapter eleven, verse one, Apostle Paul states
that faith is the assurance of our expectations and the proof (convictions) of
what our eyes have not seen.
Apostle Paul gave another
profound revelation about faith in the book of Romans. Let’s read together.
…faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 KJV
Apostle Paul writes that
faith comes by constantly hearing God’s Word (the Holy Bible, Bible sermons,
and anything inspired by the Holy Scriptures and Holy Spirit). Putting our
hope, trust, and confidence in Christ Jesus, the Holy Bible, and the Holy
Spirit is another level of faith.
I love the way Pastor
David Yonggi Cho defines faith. He states, “Faith is acting on the Word
of God as led by the Holy Spirit.” Any action that does not have a backup
on the Word of God (the Holy Bible) is not faith because the foundation of
faith is the Holy Bible.
I encourage you to
download and read my book, How to Unlock the Gate of Faith, for more
profound revelations. Do you know some disciples, prophets, and patriarchs lost
faith in their walk with God? Let me show you a few examples.
The case of John the Baptist
Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two
of his disciples,
And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for
another?
Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things
which ye do hear and see:
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the
gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
Matthew 11:2-6 KJV
Herod bound John the
Baptist in prison because John preached against him. While in prison, John
became offended by Christ Jesus for not using his power to free him. John thought that God will deliver him from Herod using the Messiah.
This is one reason John
sent two disciples to enquire about Christ Jesus. Remember, John was the one
who baptized Christ Jesus and declared by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit
that Christ Jesus is the Son of God (in other words, Christ Jesus is the
Messiah).
So, why did John send two
disciples to enquire about Christ Jesus? The truth is that John lost faith in
God and Christ Jesus. John was one of the greatest prophets according to Christ
Jesus. However, when John lost faith in Christ Jesus, Christ Jesus could not
help him (meditate on Matthew 13:58). This should tell you about the danger of
losing faith. I will write more on this in the next article.
The case of Job
For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I
was afraid of is come unto me.
Job 3:25 KJV
The Holy Bible states
that Job was righteous and prosperous (see Job 1). However, his fear opened the
portal for the enemy to attack him. The devil could never have attacked Job and
his family if Job did not allow fear to enter his soul.
This means we can live in
the righteousness of Christ Jesus and serve God and humankind in love. However,
when we live in fear and doubt God, the devil gets the chance to project
attacks. I will write more on this point, so keep reading.
The case of David
And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the
third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten
Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew
not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their
way.
So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was
burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were
taken captives.
Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their
voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess,
and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him,
because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for
his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
1 Samuel 30:1-6 KJV
David and his men engaged
the enemy for some days. When they returned to their territory, the enemy had
taken their wives and children captives. In sorrow and distress, the men
planned to stoning David to death.
David and his men had
lost hope in God. They did not understand why they should fight for a good
course and receive a bad payment. Their faith in God was lost. The only thing
they wanted to do was to kill their leader (David).
Remember, David has also
lost his wives and children to the enemy. David, the king, was extremely distressed
and sorrowful. However, David encouraged himself in the Lord. Sometimes, you
will do the right thing, yet the enemy invades and causes trouble.
In that season, you may
become sorrowful, doubtful, and fearful. You may even plan to give up on God or
do something bad. This shouldn’t be your case. Encourage yourself in the Lord because
there might not be anyone to encourage you in that season.
What would have happened
to David if he had not encouraged himself in the Lord? Probably, his men would
have stoned him to death. David’s men lost hope. However, David showed himself
strong in the Lord by encouraging himself.
When David encouraged
himself in the Lord, David activated his faith. When the hopeless men
(warriors) saw David’s faith, they became hopeful. Out of the six hundred
hopeless men, four hundred recovered from depression, fear, and pain.
With the four hundred
hopeful men, they pursued their enemies and recovered their families and
treasures. Encourage yourself in the Lord when you feel like up. Keep reading.
I will share twenty things to do when you feel like giving up. Kindly share the link to this article so others can grow in faith.
Twenty Things to Do When Losing Faith
1. Understand your limitations
Understand that you are
limited as a human being. We don’t know everything. We are not omnipotent,
omniscient, and omnipresent. There are some things we will not understand. However,
trust God and keep moving. The Holy Bible states that all things work together
for good to those who love God and those who are called according to his
purpose.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans
8:28 KJV
The fact that you don’t
understand what is going on in your life does not mean God is ignorant. Don’t give
up on God. Do not lose faith in Christ Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God's Word. Understand
that you don’t know everything.
God knows the best. Like
a five-year-old child, his parents will prevent him from knowing certain things
and getting certain things. The parents do that because they know what the
child does not know.
In the same way, we are
children in God’s eyes. Humble yourself and follow God even if you don’t
understand (meditate on Jeremiah 29:11, Job 13:15, John 20:29 for more profound
revelations).
2. Remember the works of God
Check your life. Analyze
your family and friends. There have been situations when God delivered you and your
family from danger. Count the blessings of God anytime you feel like giving up
on God.
One thing that encourages
me in the faith is that God has been faithful to me several times and is still
faithful. When I switch to my childhood stage, I conclude that I should have
been dead for a long time.
I have over one thousand
reasons why I should be dead. However, God delivered me, and He is still
delivering me. Kindly pause and thank the Lord for my life and your life for at
least ten minutes.
I’m highly grateful for God's
mercies, love, and grace upon my life and family. I know some people who die
just because of a common headache. Recently, when I came from prayer camp, I
had some strange sickness.
By God’s grace, I cannot recall the day or year I was hospitalized. However, I was hospitalized when I returned from the prayer camp. Maybe I should show you the video of myself in the clinic (Unlisted video link on youtube).
I hope you have seen me
lying on the sick bed with patients. The video you watched happened recently. I
should have been dead of the spiritual attacks—glory to the King of Kings and
Lord of Lords.
I am alive and strong by
God’s grace. I will not die before my time. However, I will live to declare the
works of the Lord in the land of the living. Remember me in your prayers as I
also pray for you.
My blessings to loved
ones who send emails that you’ve been praying for me. I’m also praying for you and
my team! As far as I am not done with the assignment, I am not dying physically.
The Holy Spirit is my anchor.
Child of God, remember
what God has done for you and your loved ones when you feel like giving up. Count
the blessings! Encourage yourself with God’s blessings and series of
deliverance. Don’t give up on your faith! Be grateful.
3. Get closer to strong and faithful Christians
Anytime you feel like
giving up, seek advice and counseling from strong and trusted Christian
believers. You would be surprised that their words will rekindle your faith. In
your church, locate a faithful leader or a Christian believer; the Holy Spirit
leads you to and tell the vessel what you are going through. The counsels and
experiences of these godly vessels will make you wiser, stronger, and powerful
in the faith (meditate on Proverbs 11:14).
4. Understand that Satan desires your doubt
Remember the case of Job?
His fear opened the portal for the devil to attack him and his family. Do you
remember my experience at the prayer camp? My doubt in God and the Holy Bible
opened the portal for the enemy to attack me spiritually.
Anytime you feel like
giving up, understand that the enemy wants to attack you and your loved ones.
Anytime you begin to doubt God, you open a door for evil spirits to project
attacks. I encourage you to download and read my latest book, The Mysteries of Evil (Understanding the Systems of Darkness), for more profound
revelation.
Do you know that some
people have become atheists because they doubted God? These people were once
Christians. However, their doubt in God allowed the enemy to manipulate them.
Some people, too, have joined strange religious groups and occult kingdoms
because of doubt.
Doubt is a weapon of the
enemy. Doubt can make God helpless (see Matthew 13:58). Don’t allow doubt to
dominate you. Stay firm in the faith because faith is your spiritual shield
(meditate on Ephesians 6:16).
5. Understand that you are near your breakthrough
Do you remember Christ
Jesus’s death? When Christ Jesus was getting nearer to the cross, the enemy
attacked the hardest. The devil used one of Christ Jesus’ closest disciples to
betray our Savior and Lord Christ Jesus.
The enemy even made the
disciples forsake Christ Jesus when Jesus needed them most. Apostle Peter
cursed and repeated several times that he never knew Christ Jesus. That was the
works of the enemy.
The devil did that to
make Christ Jesus lose faith in the Heavenly Father and his disciples. However,
Christ Jesus did not give up. One thing about the enemy is that he cannot
dominate you if your faith is intact.
However, the moment you
get rid of your faith, you enter the soulish and fleshy realm. When you enter
the soulish and fleshy realm, the devil will bombard you with all its weapons. However,
in the faith realm, you rise above the enemy’s realm.
This is one reason: the
enemy finds it challenging to dominate people full of faith. People who only
dwell in a soulish and fleshy realm get dominated by the devil and its minions.
Kill the soulish and fleshy realm if you don’t want to lose your faith. To kill
the soulish and fleshy realm, freely download and read my books, How to Walk and Live in the Spirit and other related series. The books are free on my blog and
youtube channel.
6. Understand that the ways of God are mysterious
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts:
and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our
God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your
ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways
higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:7-9 KJV
Do not give up because we
serve a mysterious God. God’s ways are far higher than ours. If you want to
understand God a little bit, repent from sin and accept Christ Jesus as your
Savior and Lord of your life.
Following this wisdom key,
your ways and thoughts gradually begin to align with the Holy Spirit as you renew
your mind with the Word (the Holy Bible). However, you must understand that the
thoughts and ways of God exceed ours (compare it with the distance between the
earth and the third heavens).
There are some things God
cannot explain because we cannot understand. You might be asking God why he
allowed your loved one to die. Maybe you want to give up because God is silent
about an urgent request.
The fact that God is
silent does not mean God has forsaken you. One reason is that the ways and
thoughts of God are mysterious. We must trust the Word of God as it is and act
the Word as the Holy Spirit directs. Anytime you feel like giving up, remember
that the ways and thoughts of God are greater than yours. God knows the best,
so don’t give up.
7. Listen to the testimonies of trusted vessels
One way of rekindling
your faith when you feel like giving up is to listen and watch the testimonies
of victorious Christians. Connect with the testimonies of people who lost their
faith and recovered it.
Listening to their testimonies will rekindle your faith (meditate on Romans 10:17). I will continue in the next article. Kindly share the link to this article if you found it helpful. Sharing the link with others can save a life.
