The Necessity and Power of Fasting and Prayers
I marvel when some people
criticize and condemn fasting and prayers. Some claim fasting and prayers are unnecessary
because we are in the new covenant. I once listened to a gospel minister
preaching against fasting on the radio.
In the discussion, he said
that the Holy Bible does not command us to fast under the new covenant. I felt
powerlessness in his speech while he spoke. The man spoke like a comfortable teacher
lecturing in a tired mood.
There was no power in his
sermon! Many Christian believers are failing because they have ignored fasting
and prayers. Do you know that some religious groups believe in fasting and
prayers?
Strange religious bodies occasionally
embark on fasting and prayers to accomplish a specific task. Even those in the
secret cults and Satanic groups embark on fasting and prayers to perform particular
tasks.
After reading this
article, you will know the necessity and power of fasting and prayers. I will
share some of my experiences about fasting and prayers so you will
grow in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Do not let anyone deceive you
that fasting and prayers are unnecessary.
Fasting and prayers are
necessary because the Holy Bible commands it (meditate on Matthew 9:15, Mark
2:20, and Luke 5:35). Keep reading. You will explore more profound truths about
fasting and prayers. Before I share why we must fast and pray, examine these
truths.
I mean, check your
status. Have you observed the wickedness and corruption of this world? Check
your family background. In some families, nobody experiences prosperity. Some people
struggle to eat twice a day.
Some families cannot
afford a daily meal. Some sleep in hunger and thirst because of poverty. I know
poverty comes in several ways. However, most people struggle because of their evil
family background.
In some families,
sickness, pain, rejection, affliction, death, and strange things have taken
control. Some people too often get bad dreams. In their dreams, they usually
walk in public toilets and places full of garbage.
Some people too defecate
in public places in their dreams. These are signs of curses, demonic attacks,
and disgrace. Some people travel in their former workplaces and hometowns doing
unnecessary things in their dreams.
Some people cannot write examinations in their former school in their dreams. Some people too often have sexual intercourse in dreams. These are a few bad dreams telling you to do something.
Have you observed the unnecessary hatred and accusation at the
workplace, neighborhood, school, and “Church.” Some people work hard, yet there
is nothing to show off for their hard labor. Some people work like elephants
and eat like snails. These are a few signs alerting you that you must fast and
pray.
I hope you remember the
woman with the blood issue. This woman tried the best physicians and hospitals for twelve years. However, she did not receive healing. When she
encountered Christ Jesus, she received healing.
Her faith in Christ Jesus
activated the power of God, leading to deliverance (see Luke 8:43-44). Some
things demand fasting and prayers because fasting and prayers are spiritual
currencies. We don’t solve spiritual issues with physical strength. Whatever
happens in this world emanates from the spiritual world.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of
God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

One thing I have observed
about fasting and prayers is that they help us grow in the Lord. Fasting and
prayers elevate my spiritual power. The more I fast and pray, my dreams become clearer.
Do you know that more than forty Jews conspired to kill Apostle Paul through
fasting?
And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound
themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till
they had killed Paul.
And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.
Acts 23:12-13 KJV
If over forty Jews could
fast because they wanted to kill Apostle Paul, then they knew something about
fasting. The Jews could have eaten and still conspired to kill Apostle Paul.
However, they decided to fast.
What made the Jews fast?
It’s a secret I will share in my upcoming books and articles. As stated, some religious
groups and secret cults engage in fasting and prayers to embark on dangerous
assignments.
If those in the dark
kingdom can fast and pray to their god for intervention, then do not joke with
fasting and prayers. Fasting is a great spiritual key. Do not joke with fasting
and prayers because they are unstoppable missiles in the spiritual realm.
Fasting and prayers are

The weapon of fasting and prayers
Is
not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo
the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every
yoke?
Isaiah 58:6 KJV
If you read the whole
chapter of the above Holy Scripture, God sent Prophet Isaiah to correct his
people about true fasting and prayers. We fast to loosen the bands of
wickedness. Fasting and prayers have the power to break the chains of the
wicked.
Fasting and prayers can
destroy the enemy's yokes and traps and deliver us from
spiritual prisons. Maybe you have been experiencing dreams of stagnation, backwardness,
setbacks, and demotion.
You often dream and see
yourself unable to write an examination in your former school. Sometimes, you
see yourself in your dream in your old house and around smelly places roaming
about.
These are demonic dreams
that activate darkness. Sometimes, you see strange animals and forces attacking
you in your dreams. These are the bands of the wicked. The enemy projects these
dreams to activate an evil covenant.
The wicked idols in your
family and neighborhood want to destroy you. You must embark on fasting and
prayers before the enemy takes advantage of you (meditate on John 10:10, 1
Peter 5:8-9, Ephesians 6:10-18).
I encourage you to

prayers because we live in a dark world controlled by numerous corrupt people. Forsaking
fasting and prayers will keep us under the enemy’s prison. Without fasting and
prayers, we will not experience the power of the Holy Spirit.
The uncommon powers of fasting and prayers
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there
went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
Luke 4:14 KJV
If you read the entire
chapter of the above Holy Scriptures, you would understand that Christ Jesus
returned in the power of the Holy Spirit after fasting and prayers. People
began associating with Christ Jesus after forty days of fasting and praying.
The longest fast I have
engaged in is twenty-one days. If you want to experience the power of the Holy
Spirit, engage in fasting and prayers. Christ Jesus set an example for us. He
showed us that fasting and prayers can activate the power of the Holy Spirit
(see Luke 4:14).
Do not join the powerless
people who condemn fasting and prayers. Powerless people do not fast and pray
because of ignorance, laziness, and carnality. Fasting and prayers have become part
of my spiritual duties.
By God’s grace, I fast
and pray for at least three days weekly. It has become part of my spiritual
duties. No one tells me to fast and pray. I fast and pray as led by the Holy
Spirit. Sometimes, I can engage in prolonged fasting and prayers in a prayer
camp, my chambers, or a secluded area.
Man shall not live by bread alone.
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was
led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat
nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this
stone that it be made bread.
And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not
live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Luke 4:1-4 KJV
Some people live to eat.
We don’t live to eat. However, we eat to live. If you live to eat, your life
will not be different from animals because animals live to eat. We only eat
when hungry. Some people cannot live an hour without eating.
That is bad. Christ Jesus
stated that man shall not live alone by bread (food). When the Holy Bible
states man, it includes women; therefore, women shall not live alone by bread.
We can eat once in a while because food maintains the body. However, we shouldn’t
let food dominate us.
Overeating can harm the
body. We must not allow food to control us. We can live without food for some
days. This is one reason fasting, and prayers are necessary. Spirit-led fasting
and prayers will not kill us. I know that fasting and praying can be burdensome
sometimes. However, fast and pray as the Holy Spirit leads. The more you fast
and pray, the more your body will adjust.
Activating the Spirit with Fasting and Prayers
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is
willing, but the flesh is weak.
Matthew
26:41 KJV
Do you know that one way to stay alert is to fast and pray? Fasting and prayer make us more sensitive to the Holy Spirit. They sharpen our spiritual eyes, ears, nose, hands, and other organs. Fasting and prayer weaken the desires of the flesh.
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of
the flesh.
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the
flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the
things that ye would.
Galatians 5:16-17 KJV
Fasting and prayers help us to walk and live in the Spirit. The more we fast and pray, the more the Holy Spirit empowers our spirit and soul. When our spirit becomes strong, we can dominate the lustful desires of the spirit and soul.

Dominating the enemy with fasting and prayers
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring
lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions
are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
1 Peter 5:8-9 KJV
Fasting and prayers help
us to be sober and vigilant. Through fasting and prayers, our faith rises. When
our faith increases, we can do great work. The faith we derive from fasting and
prayers makes us unstoppable spiritually.
Fasting and prayers
empower us to detect the traps of the enemy. Fasting boosts our faith. It makes
us sensitive to the enemy’s works. Knowing the enemy’s works positions us to
defend its attack. Fasting and prayers also help us know when and how to attack
the enemy.
The discipline and fire of fasting and prayers
In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst,
in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
2 Corinthians 11:27 KJV
In his letters to the Church, Apostle Paul states that he often fasts. This should tell you that Apostle Paul knew something about fasting and prayer. Apostle Paul often fasted and prayed because he needed spiritual power to complete the assignment. If you want to climb the spiritual ladder and mountain of the Lord, engage in fasting and prayer.
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that
beateth the air:
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest
that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a
castaway.
1 Corinthians 9:26-27 KJV
If you want to keep the
fire of the Holy Spirit burning, engage in fasting and prayers. If you don’t
want to be a captive of the enemy, engage in fasting. Sometimes, the flesh, the
soul, corrupt friends, the enemy, and things of this world try to weaken our
faith.
In this season, our
fasting and prayers sustain us. Fasting and prayers give us the strength to
stand the persecution, temptation, and affliction of the world. Fasting and prayers
are like battery chargers. They charge our spirit to stand the pressure and
deception of the world. Do not forsake fasting and prayers if you want to break
through the storms of life.
Uncommon Divine Power Through Fasting and Prayers
And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain
man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes
he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how
long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child
was cured from that very hour.
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast
him out?
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say
unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this
mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall
be impossible unto you.
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Matthew 17:14-21 KJV
Some things demand
fasting and prayers. The disciples of Christ Jesus couldn’t deliver an
epileptic boy because they did not know some principles of God’s Kingdom.
Christ Jesus emphasized that supernatural forces intervene when we deploy
certain truths.
Fasting and prayers are

The new covenant church fasted and prayed.
Now there were in the Church that was at Antioch certain prophets and
teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene,
and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said,
Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on
them, they sent them away.
Acts 13:1-3 KJV
I hope you read the above
Holy Scriptures. When the Church fasted and prayed, the Holy Spirit commanded
them to separate Barnabas and Saul (Paul) for the ministry work. We can get
specific instructions from the Holy Spirit through fasting and prayers.
Engage in fasting and
prayers if you want a word from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit speaks in
several ways. However, one of the trusted ways to get a clear voice from the
Holy Spirit is to engage in fasting and prayers.
Under the new covenant,
the Church engaged in fasting and prayers. The Holy Spirit told them what to do
when they engaged in fasting and praying. Are you confused? It’s time to engage
in fasting and prayers. Fasting and prayers will create the right environment
for the Holy Spirit to get your full attention.
Through fasting and
prayers, the things distracting you from hearing and connecting with the Holy
Spirit will clear off. You will get the time to fellowship and relate with the
Holy Spirit when you fast and pray.
When you fast and pray, the Holy Spirit's voice will be more evident. Fasting and prayers activate the virtue of humility (meditate on 2 Chronicles 7:14 and
Psalms 35:13; 69:10).
Fasting and prayers activate God's hands. You will receive divine intervention when you engage in fasting
and prayers. The mercies of the Lord will be abundant in your life when you
engage in fasting and prayers with the right mentality. Fasting and prayers
will renew your spiritual strength (meditate on Isaiah 40:31 and the book of
Esther in the Holy Bible).
The seeds of fasting and prayers
Remember, fasting takes
place when we dedicate time to the Holy Spirit. In the season of fasting, spend
time with the Holy Bible and anointed spiritual songs, and pray more in
tongues. You can engage in fasting and prayers in your closet where no one will
disturb you.
You can also move to a
prayer camp and engage in fasting and prayers. You can use your church premises
to fast and pray if the Church leaders allow. If you can find a place where no
one can disturb and distract you, use that place to fast and pray.
In the season of fasting and prayers, use the promises of God’s Word to pray. You will get more results. You can also listen to the sermons of your spiritual leader or sermons on fasting and prayers while fasting and praying. Become a blessing by sharing the link to this article.
